CPC and CCC at a Turning Point: Building the Future of Support-Free Liquid–Liquid Chromatography

Counter-Current Chromatography (CCC) and Centrifugal Partition Chromatography (CPC) are entering a decisive phase in their development. Over the past decades, these support-free liquid–liquid separation techniques have demonstrated their unique capabilities and have become well established in many academic and industrial R&D laboratories, particularly in natural products chemistry. However, their broader deployment in industrial production and large-scale purification remains more limited than their potential would suggest.

At the same time, the field is evolving rapidly. Long-standing stakeholders are redefining their involvement, while new manufacturers and technology providers are introducing innovative solutions and fresh perspectives. These developments coincide with a growing demand for greener, more sustainable separation processes, reduced environmental impact, and accelerated workflows enabled by increasingly powerful chemical profiling and analytical tools.

In this changing landscape, CPC and CCC possess many of the attributes required to address future scientific, technological and industrial challenges. Their continued development will, however, depend on the community’s ability to share experiences, identify priorities, foster collaboration, and attract new users.
This breakfast seminar and round-table discussion aims to bring together the diverse actors of the field – academic researchers, industrial users, instrument manufacturers, technology developers, experienced practitioners, and newcomers alike. Through a series of short keynote contributions followed by an open discussion, participants will be invited to exchange views on the current state of the field, emerging opportunities, technological needs and future directions.
Beyond a simple scientific discussion, the objective is to strengthen and expand the CPC/CCC community, encourage new initiatives and collaborations, and collectively prepare the next international event dedicated to these powerful, support-free liquid-liquid separation technologies.
